The Seneca were the largest of the five tribes in the Iroquois Confederacy, the others being the Mohawks, Onondaga, Cuyoga, and Oneida. The Tuscarora would join later making it six nations. The Seneca are a matriarchal society meaning lands, property and children belong to the woman's side of the family. They reside now in mostly New York State. They developed a very sophisticated democratic government with a constitution which inspired the Constitution of the United States.
