Gladiator sandals are a modern summer shoe type. They are basically sandals but with higher straps or even lacing. Some of them are ankle height and others may lace up further. They were a fashion fad a few years ago, but people found them too cumbersome to put on and they "fadded out". Actual ancient gladiators never wore sandals in the arena, they wore a boot or a type of shoe/boot similar to the military boot.
