These are the gifts that the Magi brought to Jesus upon His birth. Thry represent the following: Gold- Kingship Frankincense = Priesthood Myrrh = Sacrifice The gifts therefore were prophetic in nature to represent Jesus Christ as being King, Priest and Sacrifice. Gold is a precious metal and has great monetary value.

Myrrh is the resin from a tree or bush that grows in the Middle East. The botanical name of the genus is Commiphora, and there are several species, including Commiphora myrrha, which produces the most commonly used myrrh resin. In ancient times it was in embalming, and is still used today in perfumes, and as an incense.

Frankincense is another aromatic resin from the Boswellia tree. The botanical name of this tree is Boswellia sacra. It is also used in perfume, and as incense today, and has been used in religious rites for over two thousand years.

Frankincense and myrrh are burned by placing the small resin granules directly on top of burning coals inside a decorative metal device that is called a thurible.

Clumps of incense were discovered among the treasures buried in the tomb of the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamen. Two thousand years ago, they were considered to be among the most the most valuable treasures a merchant could possess, and were worth their weight in gold.

The biblical story of the birth of Jesus includes the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Today, many religions still use incense in their religious services and holy places.

Gold is a metal that for thousands of years has been used as a form of money. There are other uses gold has had throughout the centuries, one of which is religious in giving God the best there is to offer.

Frankincense and Mryyh are both forms of tree sap taken most commonly from trees native to east and northeast Africa. They have been used for personal, medical, and religious reasons throughout the centuries. They are known for giving off a pleasant aroma used in religious ceremonies and also, during the time of Christ, for making one smell more pleasant as it was uncommon to be able to take regular baths.

All of these items would of been expensive gifts worthy of giving to a king.

The Kings brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh.

-Gold represents purity and the Royal Crown and is a fitting gift for our King.

-Frankincense are the white bits from the gum resin of a tree that grows in Arabia, and was used to make special incense which was then burned in the Temple by the priests as a sweet-smelling offering to God, and reminds us that Jesus is both a priest and an offering to God on our behalf.

-Myrrh comes from a small bush in Arabia and it was used to make perfume and annointing oil. It was used by the Egyptians in their embalming fluids, and as a perfume it was used by many nations as part of preparing a body for burial.

Lev 2:2 And he shall bring it to Aaron's sons the priests: and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincensethereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar, to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD:
