Pre-teens and young teenagers are in the difficult position of wanting to earn money, but often being too young for job programs. So most kids must be creative in finding "jobs" to do in the summers. You will probably need to ask friends of the family, family members, and neighbors if they can give you short jobs to do. Here are some ideas.

- get a paper route
- clean windows
- walk dogs (this is often a needed service)
- run errands
- offer to clean an elderly person's apartment (light dusting and vacuuming)
- offer to help clean out a garage or basement
- sweep floors for a business owner
Follow some basic rules and you'll earn respect and gain customers, such as:
- be respectful
- be on time
- be trustworthy
- do not steal
- do what you promise to do
- treat every agreement you make as if it is an important promise
- work hard
- do the work completely
- if you change your mind, tell the person and give them notice that you won't be available; don't leave people hanging or waiting for you.
