They really are not sure yet. The closest relative is either Homo Neanderthalensis (Neanderthal) or Homo Erectus. One recent find (in 2004) in Flores, Indonesia found a troglodyte 4 feet tall. They named it Homo (sapiens) floresiensis.

But there is one species that is most likely our closest relative. Scientists say that because it's the same species as us. The only difference is the subspecies name. The species is called Homo Sapiens Idaltu.

It is believed to have lived 150,000-100,000 years ago in Africa and is mostly called cro-magnons or archaic humans.
