Answer:
I dont really think that there are any important facts to know about hamsters, but if you are considering getting one, you should know some basics on how to take care of them. (that is what i am writng about, stop reading if that's not what you are looking for) :)
First of all, you need a cage. This cage should be as big as your budget will permit. The bars shouldn't have a big space in between. ( no bigger than big enough to fit your finger through). ALso, you need bedding (i go with "Carefresh" wood chip bedding. I do not recommend the soft bedding because they can get dust mite spider thingies. Not cool).
For food get a brand name food with seeds in such as sunflower and corn, and you want some food pellets for extra nutrients. ALso, it is normal if they pick out their favorite. AS for water you want to get a water bottle that is made for hanging on the bars of the cage.
Lastly you want to get a wheel so they do not become obese or get diseases. In the wild, hamsters are used to running around all night to get food, so their bodies need exercise. You also want to get your hamster a hut to sleep in because they are nocturnal and need to sleep when the sun is out.
*If you just got your hamster and they are not very friendly, all i can say is give it time. Give them a couple days to adjust, then slowly help them get used to you (offer them a seed from your hand, they will NOT bite your finger off!)
Hope i helped!
