During isometric contraction, tension is increased but the length of the muscle remains constant. This is because the tension you put on the muscle cannot cope with the weight of the load. For example, a boy is trying to lift his father's car up. While he is trying, the tension of his muscle increases but the muscle length is unchanged (Supposedly, tension increases lead to shortening of muscle).
