Tourism is not generally regarded as a negative or harmful phenomenon, especially not in America (there are some countries in which tourists have often been murdered, including Egypt and Mexico). However, I can think of some harmful aspects of tourism. First, it has what we can describe as a large carbon footprint. Tourists tend to burn up a lot of fossil fuel, either in their cars, or in tour buses, airplanes, or whatever - few serious tourists travel by bicycle (although that is not impossible). Secondly, the existence of tourism as an industry has motivated some people to concoct tasteless tourist attractions, in hopes of luring lucrative tourist business.
