How does anemia menstruation kidney and thyroid disease cancer age homorne disorder and certain infections affect erythrocyte sedimentation rate.?

How is ESR affected by anaemia? In anemia hematocrit is reduced and as a result the velocity of the upward flow of plasma is causing the red blood cell aggregates to fall faster. Macrocytic red cells that have a smaller surface-to-volume ratio also settle more rapidly. How is ESR affected by Menstruation? ESR is not effected by menstruation. How is ESR affected by kidney disease? ESR is raised as a result of the presence of Infection, Inflammation, Malignancy. As one of these symptoms are likely to be present it would lead to a raised ESRHow is ESR affected by thyroid disease? Unless there is Infection, Inflammation, Malignancy the ESR would remain unaffected. How is ESR affected by cancer? ESR becomes raised where there is a malignancy. How is ESR affected by Age? ESR becomes higher with ageHow is ESR affected by homorne disorder? ESR is not affected by hormone levelsHow is ESR affected by infections? ESR becomes raised when infection is present. How is ESR affected by sex? ESR is naturally higher in women than in men.How is erythrocyte sedimentation rate affected by inflamation? What does a esr of 43 mean?

Here are the Ranges for the ESR in Healthy AdultsAdults Aged up to 50 mm/hr.Men---------0 to 15 mm/hrWomen-----0 to 20 mm/hrAdults Aged over 50 mm/hr.Men---------0 to 20 mm/hrWomen-----0 to 30 mm/hrESR = erythrocyte sedimentation rate.Information from Bottiger LE, Svedberg CA. Normal erythrocyte sedimentation rate and age. Br Med J 1967;2:85-7.Raised ESR indicates inflammation, infection, and Malignancy. It is a very popular test when carried out in relation to rheumatic diseases. ESR will not tel you where the problem is just hat there is a problem.

How can erythrocyte sedimentation rate be controlled if the esr is raised to 80?

ESR is a non specific test that is usually used to diagnose the presence of some medical conditions. Basically, it can tell if there is something wrong inside the body.. it is a useful marker to diagnose for conditions like temporal arteritis, rheumatoid artheritis, cancer, inflammatory diseases, auto immune diseases, pregnancy, polycythemia, trauma, Anemia etc ... and many more diseases. ] There are factors that can affect the ESR rate and these factors include Sex, Age, Race .... normal range for a man is 0-15mm/hour woman it is 0-30mm/hour Newborn is 0-5mm/hour These values are obtained after importing 3-5ml of blood into a westerngren tube and readings are take after 1 hour interval and 2 hours interval after that. If your ESR is over 80 there is a possibility of presence of a serious health condition and you physician my have alarm bells ringing, if not... then consult another other physician .... identification of the underlyin problem which is causing the ESR rate to shoot up so high must be diagnosed and the disease must be identified in order to bring things back to normal. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate is a non-specific test and is not diagnostic of any particular disease. It has a high sensitivity but low specificity. If high ESR is encountered without any obvious reasons, patient should be reassured and the test repeated after a reasonable amount of time (a couple of months). There is no need to extensively search for an occult disease without repeating it again. (Taken from http://www.mediscuss.org/erythrocyte-sedimentation-rate-77.html) Hope this helped... What happens if your ESR level is 70?

This represents an elevated "sed rate", or erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). It is most commonly a marker of inflammation. Since it is a fairly broad marker, any number of inflammatory or infectious conditions and diseases could elevate the ESR. Consult your physician regarding your particular case.

Age 78 yrs hemoglobin level is 9.5 ESR is 48 Is the ESR level normal and what precautions are to be taken and what are its implications?

The ESR level is pretty normal for a 78-year-old: a general guideline is that it should be roughly less than the age divided by 2, or for a woman, age+10 divided by 2. So for a male, it is a touch high, but for a female, it is okay. However, hemoglobin of 9.5 is rather low. This should be investigated further.
