Nucleic acids carry the genetic codes that determine whether an organism is a bacterium, a tree, a mouse, or a man, and whether a cell is a nerve cell or a muscle cell. So basically nucleic acids carry the genetic codes of LIFE!

Or very large organic molecules made up of carbon, oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and phosphorus.

Deoxyribonucleic acid, Ribonucleic acid, respectively.
