Roentgens are units of radiation exposure used for x-rays and gamma rays. They are defined in terms of the number of ions produced in one cubic centimeter of air by the radiation.

Could a little bit of gamma radiation kill a person?

270 roentgens causes death in 20% of people within 2 to 6 weeks. The rate of death increases as the roentgens of radiation increases, 1,000 roentgens being enough to ensure 100% death rate from radiation sickness and 5,000 roentgens causing instant incapacitation and death within a week.

How many roentgens would one receive with an x-ray exposure of 0.02?

An exposure of 0.02 what? No units are given, so conversion to roentgens cannot be made.

What are the dangers from a nuclear power accident?

The worst case scenario for dangers of Nuclear Power is a Meltdown. A Meltdown occurs when the core of the nuclear reactor reaches unstable temperatures usually related to a severe failure of the reactors cooling system. The effects of a nuclear meltdown depends on the safety features designed into the reactor, newer reactors SHOULD be designed to make a meltdown highly unlikely and should be able to contain one should it happen. The worst documented nuclear meltdown is probably Chernobyl, in April of 1986 reactor number 4 suffered a catastrophic power increase, leading to explosions in the reactor core. This expelled large amounts of radioactive fuel and core materials into the atmosphere and ignited the combustible graphite moderator which increased the emissions of radioactive particles into the atmosphere. The radiation levels in the worst hit areas of the reactor building have been estimated to be 5.6 roentgens per second (R/s), which is equivalent to more then 20,000 roentgens per hour. A lethal dose is around 500 roentgens over 5 hours, so in some cases unprotected workers received a fatal dose within minutes.

What are the health hazards of the nuclear reactor?

A nuclear reactor emits radiation. In a PWR reactor, if the reactor temprature is around 650 Degrees, The emission near the reactor core is 2.57 Roentgen. That is the amount of radiation a human is exposed to in around 20 Years. There is also the dust, This dust if inhaled will cause cancer. If a Nuclear Powerplant explodes the story is different. Lets take chernobyl NPP for instance. The vincinity of the reacter core after explosion was 30,000 Roentgens per hour. That is 300 Sieverts per hour. That is enough to kill a man in 20 seconds. The fuel fragments that were realeased outward from the explosion the reactor had 15,000-20,000 Roentgens Pewr hour, And these fragments were laying on the ground after the explosion. Enough to kill a man in 30 seconds.

What is the Environmental hazards of a nuclear reactor?

The nuclear Reactor is safe unless a Radioactive Leak happens. The chances of a Radioactive Leak Happening is quite low. The main concern is that when nuclear power plants use the lakes or rivers to gain coolants is that it can kill the fishes due to thermal pollution (waste heat) in the particular area. The other Concern is the Waste. The nuclear waste emits around 148 Roentgens Per hour and has to be buried at locations that will be Uninhabitable for thousands of years to come.
