A clinching statement is something that sums up your argument with finesse. So, for instance, if you were arguing that people should be nicer to each other, you could close with a call to action (a type of clinch / clinching statement). You could say something like "So, today, let's go out and be the examples, the people who make a difference by being nicer to others, even when it isn't easy." You could also be dramatic by talking about the worst-case scenario: "If we don't build unity by being nicer to each other, the world is going to become more and more divisive and fall into anarchy." A clinching statement doesn't really need to have a lot of drama... it is just your last statement, and gives you the opportunity to really "clinch" your argument... to show people they should agree with you, for whatever reason.
