The above poster is right and I wanted to add bouts of diarrhea and being bloated. A gall bladder attack usually start under the right breast and radiates under the right shoulder blade, but when I had mine I had horrendous pain just under my shoulder blade. I had seen my GP 6 times, got 3 different opinions, had Novocain shot into my spine; was sent to a pain specialist; two trips to the ER; saw a Chinese Chiropractor and finally I blew my top and screamed "Scan time!" They found a 3.5 cm stone blocking the duct. I learned after my surgery that 5% of the population can have the symptoms I had. If in doubt ask for a scan because it can save you a lot of unnecessary pain.

If you pass a gallstone, you will have abrupt onset of severe pain under your ribs on the right side. Usually this is accompanied by nausea and vomiting, the pain may radiate through to your back. Often there is a family history of gallstones. Obesity, pregnancy, and birth control pills can increase the risk. If the stone is small enough to pass, the symptoms will last a few hours to a couple of days. I there are numerous stones or ifit is too large to pass and gets stuck, bile will begin to back up and you can develop jaundice (yellow skin & whites of your eyes). The gall bladder can become infected and cause blood poisoning and even develop gangrene if untreated. Complications can also include pancreatitis.
