∙ 12y agoThe Salem Witch trials was a time of paranoia in the Puritan colony. People who were different or disliked by the girls who claimed to be bewitched were called witches. McCarthyism took place in the 50s, and was a tie of paranoia of people who had beliefs outside the mainstream. People feared that other people who had different beliefs were Russian (Communist) spies. The two are related because both of these events led to the persecution and fear of people who were different. Also the stage play "The Crucibol" is about the Salem Witch Trials. The play write Arthur Miller was inspired to write it after seeing the effects of McCarthyism.
