A slogan is a catchy phrase usually used to advertise or promote something.

It was derived from the word slogom which was a word from the Scottish and Irish Gaelic sluagh-ghairm meaning "army cry".

A slogan is a short phrase that has become identified with a particular person, group, or idea. It is usually intended to promote the person, group or thing in question, for whatever goal is desired. Slogans are usually emotionally provocative, rather than statements meant to be meaningful in their own right. Examples: Nike used the phase "Just do it" and MacDonald's used the phrase "I'm lovin' it" as slogans to promote their particular products; the Democratic party used the slogan "It's the economy, stupid" to win the 1992 US presidential election; Christians use the slogan "What would Jesus do?" to promote moral behavior.
