Well, if you don't really want to spend any amount of money, then just use the Notepad program, common on pretty much all computers. I would not advise using Word Documents due to the auto correct. And unless you adjust it, the margins and spacing will really get annoying too. Using Notepad is easy, just play around with the possible ASCII characters and be creative. I did a Batman on it, and it turned out great! Plus, pictures can be massive or small like this :).
