To add to the above list there is PC-BSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, and freeBSD. I recommend these BSD versions to the list. I have found lately that PC-BSD has a great easy to install and start GUI style system. Very stable and strong. But everyone has there favorites for different reasons.
