These words distinguish between male and female animals. The words are neither masculine nor feminine, however, because there is no gender in the English noun.
cow - bull/steer =male, cow = female (steer is a castrated male)
deer - stag=male, doe=female
sheep - ram/wether=male, ewe=female (wether is castrated male
cat - tom=male, queen=female
dog - dog=male, bitch=female
horse - stallion=male, mare=female
chicken - rooster or cock=male, pullet or hen=female
duck - drake=male, duck=female

goose-gander
cob-pen (swans)
jenny-jack ( donkeys)
