What are some examples of colonial legacy?

Answer:
"Europeans named the cities of Georgetown, Guyana; Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Santiago, Chile.
The people of Suriname speak Dutch."

The people of Brazil speak Portuguese; the people of the Guianas speak English and French; the people of Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, Venezuela and Colombia speak Spanish. The great number of Europeans who came to South America, and the fact that their descendants are generally in positions of wealth and power. The eventual adoption in South America of political systems and economies based on European models. The adoption of primarily Roman Catholicism as the religion of all of South America. The declining populations and lifestyles of the indigenous people of South America, due to continued "European" method of extracting natural resources by destroying everything that 'covered them up,' whether that be forest, animals, or indigenous peoples ... basically, the thin veneer of western civilization that covers the continent (as well as in North America) -all of it - is colonial legacy.

The same can be said for Africa ... Christianity and Islam, and the English, French, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese and Arabic languages ... all are part of the colonial legacy ...
