- ante- (preceding) as in antebellum
- al- (all, or toward in place of ad-) as in always, alliteration
- con- (with) as in construct, converse
- in- (may indicate not, also im- and il-) as in indestructible, incapable
- un- (not or ) as in unreliable
- de- (undo or remove) as in deregulate, deflate
- dis- (undo or undone) as in disintegrate, disestablish
- re- (do again, repeat) as in review, reexamine
