What are some fun ways to study?

You can make studying fun in a variety of ways, such as:

1. Challenge yourself to study for a short amount of time (say 30 minutes), take a 15 minute break, and study again for 30 minutes.
2. If you have to read a chapter of an assignment, take paper and doodle the things you are reading about. Even a math problem looks more fun in doodles. Just remember, if you're doing homework you'll need to copy it again neatly with your answers.
3. Challenge yourself with a friend; whoever finishes a task first (and completely) chooses what you'll do together for fun on Saturday.
4. If you study alone, set "rewards". ANYthing can be a reward if you think of it as pleasurable, nice, exciting, etc. So, "I will study for 1 hour, then watch my favorite sit-com for 30 minutes." At the end of the show, return to studying. A walk, a bath, calling someone, etc. can be a "reward" too.
5. Make a song to go with our vocabulary because that's what I did with my friend for a science test! Sometimes a silly song works best.
6. Make a story that includes the specifics you are studying.
7. If studying groups of names, such as the names of bones or muscles, use the first letter to make up a unique "name" as though "it" is a person. Example: Paddy Patella (knee)
8. Get together with friends and do charades using topics you're studying. For example, historical inventors (Alexander Graham Bell, for ex.).
9. If you like drawing, draw people you are studying. If you don't know for sure what a person/historical figure looked like, make it up. Beside the person, draw what they are best known for or something great that they did. As an example, Sherlock Holmes could have a big magnifying glass.
10. For hard subjects, break the information into smaller parts. Use index cards: write down 1 topic or 1 person per card, then use the cards to study (like flash cards).
11. If studying people / a person, have an imaginary conversation with the person. Use information to ask that person questions about your life. Example: George Washington. Start by asking when he was born... where he lived... what he did in life... Nobody else needs to know you're "talking" to people you're studying. But just like when we ask friends questions, you'll get to know people you study better when you use a question-answer type of imaginary "conversation".

Even though it seems like more work, if you use drawing or extra writing you'll be surprised at how much more you remember of what you just studied!
