Answer
Talk about favorites like type of ice cream, color, food, T.V. show, movies. So you can get to know the person better. If he/she was your friend and you already know them well you should talk about where your going and say something that relates to where you are going if you have never came in contact with something like where you are going make something up.(I have never been on a date before so I don't know if these theories work.)
Answer
Everything above is true, especially trying to find things you have in common: authors, books, music, movies, food, etc. If there's ever a slow point there are many questions you can use to get things going again:
- Ask about their siblings
- Share something interesting about yourself
- Comment on the surroundings
It doesn't really matter, as long as there are no awkward pauses. However, don't try to fill every last second with words or you'll seem desperate and not at ease. Ultimately, there will either be a connection or not and it must be based on who you really are, not what you think the other person wants. So, above all, be yourself!
