First - wear a helmet and wrist guards- you will take falls that your ancestors will feel. Don't chance a head injury.
Second - Take a professional lesson - in that lesson you will learn the intricacies of edge control which if you don't have you will develop soon enough but after A LOT of pain/broken bones, etc.
