SET UP BY-LAWS STATING HOW MANY EMPLOYEES WILL REPRESENT ON THE COMMITTEE. HOW MANY STAFF MEMBERS, HOW MANY HOURLY/GROUP EMPLOYEES WILL REPRESENT. STATE HOW LONG THEY SHALL SERVE ON THE COMMITTEE. WHAT THE REWARDS WILL BE FOR SERVING ON THE COMMITTEE. STATE HOW COMMUNICATION WILL DRIFT FROM THE SAFETY COMMITTEE DOWN TO ALL EMPLOYEES AND BACK UP FROM EMPLOYEES TO THE COMMITTEE VIA THEIR REPS. HAVE AT LEAST ONE MEETING A MONTH. VOTE ON SAFETY ISSUES IN THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY THAT NEED TO BE MADE A SAFETY ITEM BY WAY OF DEMOCRATIC VOTE WITHIN THE SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING AND ASSIGN IT TO A GROUP OR PERSON TO SOLVE OR ADDRESS AND CLOSE THIS ITEM. KEEP A SPREADSHEET OF OPEN ITEMS, PENDING ITEMS AND CLOSED SAFETY ITEMS THE SAFETY COMMITTEE HAS ADDRESSED AND SOLVED. THIS WAY THE COMMITTEE SECRETARY CAN TRACK ITEMS AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE BEING WORKED ON/ADDRESSED AND THAT THEY ARE PENDING, NEW OPEN ITEMS, CLOSED ITEMS. THIS WAY PROGRESS CAN BE MONITORED BY THE COMMITTEE AND UPPER MANAGEMENT. DON'T FORGET, COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE COMMITTEE AND ALL EMPLOYEES VIA THEIR REPS IS THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL SAFETY COMMITTEE.
PUT UP SAFETY SUGGESTION BOXES FOR ANONYMOUS SUGGESTIONS THAT THE SAFETY COMMITTEE CAN PICK UP BEFORE THEIR MEETINGS AND ADDRESS. MAKE SURE REPS HAVE TAILGATE MEETINGS WITH THEIR PERSPECTIVE GROUPS TO GET FEEDBACK AND SAFETY SUGGESTIONS TO TAKE TO THE SAFETY COMMITTEE MONTHLY WHEN THEY MEET.
