From a mom:
I am a mom of four adult children. In their younger years, the BEST gifts I received were the sticky, glued together, painted on, Crayola masterpieces! Anything at all that they made, I LOVED and I have kept to this day. Now, the best thing for me to receive is just good old-fashioned TIME together. The perfect Mother's Day to me would be my kids coming over, playing some Board Games together, laughing and catching up and reminiscing about the past!
Ideas for homemade gifts are:
Above all, spend time with your mom on Mother's Day. It's something she will cherish forever.
Gifts in a Jar make really nice home made gifts for any occasion. You can get a free recipe book with hundreds of different gifts in a jar recipes at the website Gifts-in-a-Jar.com
Gifts in a Jar are really easy to make, and you can choose a recipe that is tailored to the persons likes. As the website cited above explains, its the type of gift that makes people feel pampered.
I would also suggest gifting handmade soap. Mothers always like natural beauty products which don't have any side effects and are delicate on the skin. You can order handmade soap online from Nyassa who literally have products which built by the hands of experts and consist of no artificial chemicals.
Here's a simple idea: Take a small teacup (you can use one of her favorites, but make sure it's not irreplaceable if you break it!). Glue it onto a saucer (use cement glue or something similar that is easy to undo after she's enjoyed the event to the full); put a candle in the cup.
Light the candle and present your mom with your gift (add cookies or chocolates or a note for that added personal touch).
Idea 2:Another really wonderful idea: Take a hard piece of cardboard (like the cover board of a writing notebook) and set aside a handful of photos. These can be of her through the years or ones which include you and her or even of her with you and various family members (basically her loved ones) which are closely related: i.e. siblings, father, her parents etc. Give the board a facelift (e.g. you can paint it (black is usually most effective) and then paste some dried, pressed flowers and leaves (even using things from your childhood) etc. to the board. Create a collage of all these pictures and glue them to the decorated board using arts and craft glue. Once all pictures are stuck down and you are happy, take ordinary clear wood varnish and paint over all the pics, flowers, ribbons etc. and leave to dry properly. This will last almost forever and serves as a great gift for any occasion, especially Mothers because it's personal, shows that you took time out to do something special and it will mean more than something bought!
