It depends entirely upon your predisposition, range of interests and how deep your pocket. The most rare and beautiful things can cost a lot of money. I collect 17th and 18th century pewter, objects made from horn, Christian art, silhouettes and jazz memorabilia. Of course, if you are Bill Gates or have similar wealth, you might collect museum quality impressionist paintings. But, you will have other interests. So, express them in what you decide to collect. Collecting and displaying you collection to friends from time to time can be an expression of your good taste. In the longer term, it can also be highly profitable from an investment perspective.
