What to see in Prague

We went on a vacation to Prague and I loved the city. Do take a TOUR so that the guide can explain all that you are seeing. The tour will go through the former Palace which is a large complex on the hill overlooking the city. Walk across the bridge and take note of the statues of the former ruler as there is a great deal of history in the story. Make sure to see the famous town clock as it is a great work of machinery. See the shops that sell crystal (high quality glass) as it is a part of the city's main economy. It is a bargain to buy it there. Go to an evening show of classic Bohemian dance as it will tell you about the true culture of the people. Be very careful not to get robbed while out at night. Don't carry all your money with you!! Stay with a tour group, if you are smart as there is safety in numbers. We stayed at a first class hotel and the desk clerk arranged for the tour to stop and pick us up there.

Prague is by far the best preserved major city in Central Europe. Key tourist sights include Prague Castle (Hrad), the Mala Strana (area between the Castle and the river), the Charles Bridge, the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square, also most of the adjoining areas.

The Hrad is much more than a castle. It's a kind of mini city itself. The castle (palace0 itself is well worth looking at, the two cathedrals and the 'crazy' Golden Lane, where Franz Kafka lived for a while.

I'd recommend a tour, and if you have time, I'd suggest strolling in the vast historic centre. (Obviously, be aware of your surroundings). One of the great glories of Prague in Mala Strana (the area round the castle) is the dramatic changes in height. You really need, if possible, to explore this area at leisure and on foot.
