There's no inherent cost, other than that of downloading and creating a CD or purchasing a copy for a nominal fee. Learning to use the system and migrating apps or finding replacements factor in to the "cost", especially for enterprises, but the cost would be similar even if migrating to a proprietary incompatible operating system.

Training. The time you spend learning how to use it. Plus the cost of the blank DVD you burn the free download onto.

If you get a Windows-like distro like Lubuntu or Ubuntu, not much time at all, because they use the same hot-keys, etc for the same purposes as Windows whenever possible.

But if you really need the full potential of Linux, you will spend years learning it.

There is no monetary cost associated with linux, or any other free operating system such a Ubuntu, Linux Mint, etc. The cost will be in buying the hardware - computer, monitor, etc, on which to run the free operating system, and other (free) programs available from the software centre and repositories.

There are no costs with the software. Buying the computer and hardware, choosing an ISP (internet Service Provider) and renting a phone line, are the main costs.
