Difficulties encountered in caring for a mentally disabled person:
  • Communication and understanding

It can be extremely frustrating for both the carer and for the disabled person when misunderstandings occur. These are likely because a mentally disabled person usually has reduced communication and comprehension skills, when compared to a fully able adult, but may often have to deal with complex adult situations, such as earning money, using public transport, and sexual feelings.

  • Stress can be caused by taking care of them, there are physical challenges with having to bathe the disabled; feed them; watch them constantly. All these are difficulties while dealing with mentally disabled people. Mainly because they're incapable of taking care of themselves.
