Build furniture out of wood. You can look up online ideas for plans, or be creative, but make anything you need around the house: tables, chairs, bed frames, etc. Most hardware stores or community colleges have classes available to teach you basic woodworking skills.
Photography. Film SLR cameras can be purchased relatively cheaply nowadays (versus digital), and learning to develop your own black and white film is fun. You can probably use a dark room at a local community college, or ask a camera shop for ideas.
