Hurricane and Typhoon (and Tropical Cyclone) are different names for the SAME Geo-scale rotational weather phenomenon. While a Tornado is rotational weather phenomenon born out of just one cloud.
Both tornadoes and earthquakes are violent natural disasters that develop quickly and generally last for a short time. Aside from these similarities they are completely different.

They are both dangerous forces found in nature. Tornado's can strike at any moment, while a volcano can erupt without warning. They both release immense energy but differently. Tornado's have immense kinetic energy and fizzle out. While volcano's have immense potential energy(stored energy) until it is released it by way of massive eruptions. They have a similar cylindrical shape while their sizes vary. The "eye" of a tornado is its center. The "mouth" or "peak" of a volcano is its center. Ironically the eye of a tornado is calm and peaceful while the outer arms of it wreak havoc on anything/anyone is comes in contact with. the mouth of a volcano is where the magma erupts from, causing destruction and chaos below.
I know you asked for "similarities" But I feel it unfair to only give the similarities. Compare and contrast is a much better teaching tool. I also feel that there is more to be said, but I'm tired. Someone please delete this second paragraph and expound upon my thoughts.
They are both disasters...
They kill people....
They are both devastating....
They destroy homes....
They are both dangerous.....
The both take place on the ground.....
Both are natural disasters that develop quickly and release large amounts over energy. Beyond that they are completely different and unrelated.
Both are types of storm that can produce damaging winds and are fueled by warm, moist air, though tornadoes indirectly so. A tornado is a product of a thunderstorm.

They both destroy and the both kill.

The tornado may pick up ash and some volcanic rocks, but the volcano would, for the most part, not be affected.
There both destructive.
In terms of energy output, a volcano is more powerful.
Both a tornado and a blizzard are dangerous storms with powerful winds.
a natural disaster like a tsunami or tornado. Volcano etc.

The tornado would picked up ash and perhaps some loose stone. Vegetation onf the volcano would be damaged. The volcano itself would not be affected in any way worth noting.
it can stop the tornado

A funnel volcano is the most common tornado and is what most people think of when you mention a tornado. They are very violent and destroy almost everything in their path.
Both a tornado and a blizzard are dangerous storms with powerful winds.
Tornadoes not not strike before volcano. Tornadoes and volcanoes are unrelated.

Volcanoes don't approach. You might be thinking of a tornado.

- They all are made up of layers of volcanic debris - They all erupt lava - They all have played important roles in volcanology - They are all hazardous
