Helium can be used for a range of different things. Helium is renowned for the fact that it is lighter than air. This can be used for lifting probes and vehicles into the upper atmosphere. Examples of this are blimps and weather balloons. Also, helium, being the second lightest gas next to hydrogen, is very difficult to solidify or compress. The difficulty involved in the compression of helium makes it a good substance for use in shock absorbers and it's extremely hard to reach freezing point makes it a good coolant for super conductive materials.
Helium, in it's gas state, can be used for balloons.
usually used to fill balloons

You can use air but it won't float so I would recommend helium. If you suck in helium, it will make your voice sound weird.... Try it!!
helium is a gas at room temperature.
What is doubtless the most common use of helium by the elderly is the getting and giving of helium balloons. "Older" people don't do a lot of mixed gas diving, inert gas welding or other activities like that.
Helium is pure as it is on the periodic table.
If you want the balloons to float, you would probably use helium.
