- Have someone read your essay to you. Listen to your own voice. How does it sound? Did you say what you meant to say?
- Overused words and phrases-Highlight overused words and phrases. Do this for each paragraph. Omit if possible. Otherwise, rewrite them in a new way.
- Read each sentence from the last to the first - By reading each sentence in this manner, your eye will better pick up misspelled words and other errors.
- Rewrite sentences. Turn them in to questions, or restructure them using Introductory phrases. Try to write sentences with more than six words. Use passive structure. Use a thesaurus to make your writing more effective.
- Cut your paragraphs into separate pieces. Try moving them around. Often, introductions make better conclusions, and vice versa.
- Have someone read your essay back to you, again.
- Remember, writing is recursive.
