Take quicker showers.

I personally do not have running water and have to gather water from a spring. To conserve water I:

Melt snow for dishes, washing my hair, and laundry

Use old aquarium water to water my houseplants

Make boiled foods like noodles using less water

Wash my floors, windows, and countertops with minimal amounts of wat

The cactus is a good plant for storage of water, all you need to do is cut the cactus in half and squeeze the cactus so water could come out. You know why, they half roots that expand out very far and when rain pours down the roots suck up the water.
