There is a large gap between the diagnosis of autism. Your child's autism could range from mild to severe. In many cases, the symptoms of autism are; being completely mesmerized by t.v. and movies, stacking and organizing things into rows, showing extreme sensitivity to light, touch, taste, and sound, avoiding eye contact, or physical contact, not being able to process or convey emotion, speaking in monotone, showing possible signs of O.C.D., depending on a schedule, and in cases of Aspergers, the child will be extremely smart, and possibly be able to memorize things such as movie credits, or a page in the dictionary at a single glance. They will however become extremely agitated when their usual schedule is interrupted or changed.

The need to put things in precise order, to follow repetitious patterns, make odd sounds and tics and spam gestures. They tend to have an aversion to loud sounds and strong smells. They tend to not want to touch anything someone else has to eat from something someone else has. They have an aversion to lights that are too bright. They tend to pace around or obsess over little details. Holding in their tics is like holding in gas or a sneeze. It eventually causes serious migraines and even violent seizures. They tend to get itchy a lot, blink and rub their eyes and noses a lot.

Damage has been done to numerous parts of the brain--although those that survive work at far more than the usual capacity.

Well, if they seem to be having trouble with giving expressions and they throw a lot of tantrums, I think that is a sign of autism. You could also take a test for them at a specialized autism helping station.
