Feline leukemia is a cancer typically caused by infection with FeLV (feline leukemia virus). It tends to be a pretty quiet disease with few symptoms early in the infection - possibly a fever and lethargy when the cat first becomes infected. However, as the leukemia lesions increase, your cat may show a variety of signs ranging from numerous infections that are difficult to treat and clear up, difficulty breathing, enlarged lymph nodes or internal organs, difficulty urinating or cognitive changes.

The symptoms for a cats cold or upper respitory infection are: Watery eyes, congestion, sneezing. Take the cat to the vet, now with the economy the way it is, sometimes the vets will work with you on the price, I know, I just took my cat to the vet for a URI. Never use Vick's in a vaporizer as that might kill the cat. My vet gave my cat a decongestant, and a shot of penicillin. He also gave us medicine to give to him at home. You can also try chicken broth that is not too fatty. The problem is that it is very difficult for the cat to get rid of the mucus in its sinuses and chest. Don't take any chances with your cat. Take him or her to the vet asap.

Feline distemper is one of the hardest diseases to spot. It's common, ecspecially with younger cats and kittens, to have them get sick quite suddenly to the point of near death because of the lack of symptoms. It is, however, common for owners to mistake a potential symptom for another illness. Examples are vomiting, diarrhea, going off food/water etc. While these things are the symptoms for a lot of other illnesses, it is still important to take your cat to the vet, even if you don't think it's that big of a deal. Later symptoms may be more serious diarrhea (with blood and/or yellow fluid), vomiting of blood, and the development of other illnesses, such as a cold, because of the now weak state of the cat's immune system. Make sure your cat/kitten has had it's distemper vaccine, and if any of these symptoms show up, take your pet to the vet promptly. Better to be safe than sorry!

A cat is not susceptible to Parvo, although it is believed to be related to a Feline Distemper virus. Rodents and the like can also carry the virus about in this fashion. The virus is very hardy and can last nine months off host on floors or the like.
