Women: 10.62 seconds by Florence Griffith-Joyner of the United States at the 1988 Games in Seoul.
Calvin Smith of the United States set the world record in the 100 in 1983 at 9.93 seconds. That was bettered at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul when Carl Lewis of the US ran a 9.92.
