What are the 3 major types of plate boundaries and what happens at each?

Answer:
1/ Convergent, or colliding:-where the plates are moving towards each other.

Example : Nazca plate colliding with west coast of South America produces the Andes mountain range.

2/ Divergent, or spreading:- where the plates are moving apart.

Example:- Mid Atlantic sea floor spreading causing the USA to move away from Europe.

3/ Transform ,or sliding:- where the two plates slip past each other.

Example:- San Andreas fault where the Pacific plate is moving North causing earthquakes as the stored energy is rapidly released in the stick and slip motion.
