Eastern Star is not a secret society : it is a fraternal organization affiliated with the masonic lodge that allows women to participate in the social, charitable, civic events along side masons. There is a short obligation which is given by each member on joining, which is so banal as to be boring but it is considered a personal commitment by members and is is considered a secret vow. That is about all that is secret in the whole organization and is no worse that that given by say the Elks Lodge or a college fraternity. OR even the boy scouts.
come to any "OPEN meeting of Eastern Star ( and there are several every year) and see for yourself. just call the lodge and asked to speak with the "star" secretary and she /he will have a listing of all open meetings in that year.
and they have a lot of good eats after each meeting, which is why I go.
