Marines have to be in good physical condition to enlist. That includes normal eyesight and hearing. Some hearing loss may be acceptable, as long as the range does not impact normal communications.

Well, you have to enlist (sign the dotted line) which basically says you're not crazy, not a threat to society (no felonies or domestic violence), you're somewhat physically fit (although it doesn't matter because you will be), you can pass basic medical tests including weight and height standards, you don't have AIDS, TB (they don't test for STD's or else no one would get in), oh, and you're not using drugs that can be detected by a 10-panel urine test.

If you've been convicted of a crime, definitely tell them about so they can get it on your record because you don't want any lies lingering about after you're sent to Boot camp. If you've used drugs (which you probably have) and it can't be proven by court records or paperwork of any kind, then say nothing. However, if you were busted for smoking dope when you were 17 then just say you tried pot 3 times for "experimental" use only.

You'll have to take the ASVAB which is a test to see just how smart you are and the results will determine how eligible or not eligible you are for different jobs. Make sure you pick your job WISELY. If you think you may want to make it a career, go infantry. If you're pretty sure you want to do your 4 then get a civilian job then find something that will transfer nicely to a job resume.

Don't be arrogant, don't be lazy, don't be a know-it-all. Just keep your mouth shut, do what you're told, work hard, look out for your fellow Marines and you'll do just fine.
