To be a good journalist you have to be confident, but not over confident of corse. You have to be good at literacy and have to think or good headings for your piece of writing as the headlines are the main thing that attract readers to read your article. Secondly you have to have the passion for writing and finally you have to have a good story. To get that you have to watch every move and watch it carefully. And remember always carry a pen and paper youu never know when you see a shocking event!

----

People usually became a journalist, because they love writing. And good ones remain a journalist, because they love people.

A good journalist has to be out for the truth. Always. She/he is ambitious, passionate. A good journalist is a thriver. Good journalist always keeps learning because when we have an internet, there's no excuse for ignorance.

A good journalist is conscientious. Pen is mightier ,that is stronger,

than sword for sure as journalists have a power over the minds and hearts of their readers. A good journalist is not supposed to use his influence in order to meet personal objectives and should be well aware of the consequences that may result from his actions. A personal code of conduct and a strict work ethic must be adhered to by all journalists in order to excel as individuals and journalism professionals. So all journalists should be enough conscientious to become good journalists.

"The good Journalist" communicates clearly and concisely. It is impossible to get an accurate accounting of news events, even those I witness with my own eyes. A good journalist verifies facts using as much sources and source material he can get to.
It is OK to have your own opinions, commentary and bias ("pure" objectivity - not possible), what's needed is to identifyand separate News, Editorial and Advertising.

(Ideally) News contains facts only. We should never blur lines between lest we become deceptive and by default are no longer journalists...there are many professions dedicated to obfuscating, distorting or controlling the distribution of information. Journalism is not one of them.

Good journalists need to promote free thinking and provide the maximum amount of quality information whenever possible.

(Ideally) Journalism is fair. Life is not. People are not. Fairness is difficult. The definition of what's fair and what isn't changes all the time and no one fully agrees if [insert controversial policy here] is "fair" or "unfair." Good Journalists try to be fair.. I'll exclude it from "need"

Sometimes my words hurt people. They get offended or get hurt feelings. There is never malice or intent on my part though. People get really hurt REALLY badly ...often in horrible ways. I can't stop that but I can try to MINIMIZE it. Say I'm at a crime scene...a bad one. Somebody died. I know who it is. Will I report it? Probably not. The worst way to learn that someone you care about has died...is randomly...from a media source.

A good journalist takes proactive steps to REDUCE harm.

As for personal life...I have one, so do you. You should do what you want-within the boundaries of "reducing harm." What you do in private by yourself...or with other people who all want to do the same thing. It's ok with me. Nor should what I do in private be relevant to you.

A good journalist IS NOT required to do anything with regards to personal conduct...we do need to establish and make our best effort to adhere to a code of ethics. We have it clearly defined here: http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp Consider whether your news provider is compliant with the established code. They don't need to, but if they ignore this code, the are not journalists....certainly not "good" journalists.

The "good journalist' will wade through awful...horrible things on your behalf to tell you the truth about what he finds. Delicate sensibilities or an "I don't want to know about it" attitude is an enemy of the good journalist. Sometimes I'm obligated to step way outside my comfort zone in order to educate myself to provide better information. There's lots of topics and stories I don't cover because something about it makes me uncomfortable. I DO need to know about it, reported or not.

The good journalist knows a little bit about everything

A crucial function of Journalism is to maintain the Fourth Estate. 18th century philosophers like john Locke, Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin codified a "checks and balances" system to keep all branches of administration from becoming "too powerful,' but they were troubled by it. It was still three parts of one system. There's a reason why the 1st amendment is "FIRST" Who hold the government accountable?

The "good journalist" holds EVERYONE accountable. He watches the watchers.

There is a limit to my establishment of free speech. It's an ethical quandary but one that most Journalists apply. We need the 1st amendment. In order for that to be an honest statement, I need to respect your rights....especially when freedom or life is at risk. If you are arrested and charged with a capital offense or anything period. I won't write about or discuss it until it's done. I want you to get a fair trial...because i hope that you would want me to get one.

The good journalists' rights end where everyone else's rights begin.

Most of the qualities a Journalist needs are the same qualities an honest, open-minded, educated and responsible person already has.
