Haynes has a generic stereo wiring diagram in the back of their books but as for the actual wiring of the stereo itself, I don't know.

or go to www.modifiedlife.com it has alot of different wiring diagrams

This may help a little if you haven't had an answer yet. I had to rewire my aftermarket stereo to work with the '98 Taurus which uses basically the same system as a '96 model. Although some of my color coding isn't the OEM standard so it won't help you here. You need to buy a new speaker harness if you are changing out the stereo because first off, the tuner is in the back of the car on the driver side trunk. The radio is actually just a receiver in this model of vehicle between the years of 1996-1999. There is no antenna line running to the front. But, if you need to know the wire colors start writing them down; you can find the speaker wires on the left plug that is going into the tuner (in the trunk).

This may help: http://www.modifiedlife.com/1997-Ford-taurus-car-radio-stereo-wiring-diagram/

I couldn't find one for the 1996, but like I said, it should be about the same if not exact.

If you need more help, talk to a specialist at a local car audio shop.

Most of the speakers are 5X7 (6X8 is considered the same). For the exact answer you can go to Crutchfield.com and use there site to figure it out, you just type in the make and model and they will tell you exactly what size each speaker is.

Crutchfield.com is an audio and video retailer specializing in cars. They have powerful tools for determining what fits each and every vehicle, including speakers.

On the homepage, point at the "Car Audio and Video" menu and select "Outfit My Car". Follow those prompts and you'll know the specifications for each component in your Sable.

Btw, I'm a very satisfied customer of theirs. Awesome customer service and very competitive pricing.

I can't quite remember the exact colours of the wires, But I can tell you that the actual stereo is located in the trunk of the car, above the left wheel well. That is where you'll find your speeker wires if that is what you're looking for. After you locate them, I'm sure you can figure out wich is wich

In my 1999 Ford Taurus how do you switch the radio speaker from back to front?

How do you remove rear speakers on a 1993 ford Taurus?

Hi, Removal of the rear speakers on a 1993 Taurus is very simple and straight-forward. First remove the speaker grilles. The grill comes off much like a slide-out cell phone battery cover would. Each end of the grille has a lip which is tucked underneath the deck lid. Gently push or lift the grill out, being careful not to bend it. (If you do it's okay, they can be easily bent back into shape). With the grill removed you'll be able to see the speakers which are screwed in with 4 screws. Remove the four screws and unclip the speaker harness and the speaker will come right out. Speaker size should be 6X8" and you can pick up an adapter from Crutchfield which allows you to connect your new speakers to the factory wiring without any splicing. The whole job shouldn't take more than 20 minutes.

How to replace door speakers on a 1997 Ford Taurus?

Start with removing the door panel. The speaker mounting screws are likely to be something unusual - like maybe 5.5 mm(?)Here's a tip from my mistakes: do NOT cut the factory wiring!Try and ensure you end up with a converter wire harness that will plug straight into the factory plug and allow you to adapt to the new speaker.Places like Crutchfield.com carry them.See "Related Questions" below for more about door panels and Taurus - Sable radio/speaker wiring.

What size speakers are in a 98 Ford Taurus?

The speakers in a 1998 Ford Taurus are 6X8, or 5X7. 6X8 and 5X7 would both mount in it, but the 6X8 are obviously bigger. Only bad thing is you won't be able to use any good looking speaker grilles because the metal covers in the back.

Can you install a third speaker in the back window of a 99 Ford Taurus in between the two factory speakers?

Yes. But, I never seen one mounted in the window? If you have a saw to cut the window or a hole in the tray below the window - have at it.
