Advantages: Second income to help pay household bills if necessary and keeping your skills honed just in case you become a single mother and have to work. Getting back into the work world can be difficult if you have raised kids your whole life and do not have any work skills.

Disadvantages: Your children will not have their mother around as much and statistically moms who do stay home during the early years of a child's life (infants, tots and grade school years) form better control over a child's behavior during the formative years, manners, and all around well being. Kids need their mom and dad around as much as possible, but moms provide the most nurturing. When a child is sick, who do they call first?...mommy. Although there are a lot of super single dads that play both roles and do just great.

Just some advise ....A nice happy medium is to just work part-time if you can afford to until the kids are older, or see if you can work from home.
