Excel can redo all your calculations for you. If you change one number on a paper based spreadsheet that may mean having to do all the calculations that directly or indirectly using that number all over again. In Excel, all the calculations will be automatically done when you change any numbers. Also, you may make an error in your calculations if doing them by hand or forget to redo a calculation. If your spreadsheet is set up correctly then all the calculations will be done again and they will be correct.

Using an electronic spreadsheet gives you many more options:

you can edit easily if you make a mistake

easily modify row/column width by dragging at any time

perform automated calculations. for example, you can tell the software to add all the items in a column and display their sum at the bottom of the column. If you make any modification to the items, the sum at the bottom will automatically change accordingly. You're not limited to just summing, you can tell it to automatically perform most simple to most complex mathematical calculations on the data you've entered

add automatically generated charts, illustrations, histograms, etc. you just enter the data and tell the software to generate charts, etc. based on the data. you choose the style of the chart and have complete control over how it looks. you can choose the most simple one or go for fancy 3-d ones.

store as much data as you want. tens of thousands of rows and columns

better manage your work. you can easily organize your work into a hierarchy of folders, different files inside folders and different spreadsheets inside files.

easy backup. just copy the file/folder to a dvd, hdd, or multiple places to backup.

formatting of data. you can choose from hundreds of text styles, sizes, colors, even fancy stylized text individually for everything you enter.

work smarter with copy and paste. suppose you enter 100 rows of data in a spreadsheet and the same data is also to be used in another spreadsheet, you don't need to enter it again, just copy and paste it there.

add graphics/pictures/logos etc. to make your spreadsheet look more interesting.

In the case of power loss (or similar) the manual spreadsheet may still be easily accessed for reference, modification, etc.

Low-tech. has SOME advantages... for the time being.

it will run calculations for you and work out all the maths. if you create a spreadsheet, and do it right, then as long as you fill it in correctly, the figures will be correct. since you only create it once, it greatly reduces the risk of human error

an electronic spreadsheet automatically recalculates figures when you can change numbers in a cell

Biggest advantage is instant calculation of totals and functions.

Eliminates repetitive tasks with formulae.

can use to keep accounting record

your data is organized ,you can input the data into any number of graphs and charts.

Using a spreadsheet allows for easy organization of data in a format that is visually easy to follow. Also spreadsheets make use of mathematical equations making them ideal for data requiring calculations. In general, spreadsheets allow a layout that is organized and easy to understand.

It can help you with your finances and it can help you easily with your calculations.

Spreadsheets can do things automatically. Doing things by hand, there can be mistakes.

There are many reasons an electronic spreadsheet is good because you do not have to use a rubber when you go wrong and if you trying to do a sum on the sheet there is a way on the computer But writing it by hand is ok I guess

the advantages of this is that spread sheets are basically giant powerfull calculators diadvantages are that if you do one formula wrong the whole spreadsheet will go wrong and you may have to start again one of my friends said: If you make an error in your formula, every single calculation done on that spreadsheet will be wrong. Some formulas in one of my spreadsheets kept disappearing and I hurriedly re-entered the formula and entered it wrong. Everything I did on that spreadsheet was wrong. If you do something wrong then you might have to do the spread sheet all over again.
The advantages of using a spreadsheet are; your date is organized and is setup in such away. That it is easy for any one to read and understand. Plus you can input the data into into any number of graphs and charts. which in my book looks more professional and my you look like you no what you are talking about. The disadvantages are; the information can unorganized, sloppy, confusing, and not very easy to read. this in all makes it hard to convey your underlined point.

Answer

If you are using it for money calculations or something like timesheets and put in a wrong formula (example - you are a new user) it can be a disaster. So, if you are fairly new to using spreadsheets, check and recheck your formulas when calculating anything to do with money or it can bite you bad. If you make an error in your formula, every single calculation done on that spreadsheet will be wrong. Some formulas in one of my spreadsheets kept disappearing and I hurriedly re-entered the formula and entered it wrong. Everything I did on that spreadsheet was wrong. If you do something wrong then you might have to do the spread sheet all over again.

A spreadsheet is, in it's most basic form, a large calculator. It's purpose is to perform both simple & complex mathematical calculations. Spreadsheets are extremely powerful and are used for 'number crunching' - (calculations on lots of figures) and also allow mathematical formulae to be applied. A good example of spreadsheet use would be to calculate sales profits for the current year which need to be presented in a graph. The range of formulae that can be applied is vast and ranging from the most basic (adding two numbers together) to complex calculations such as applying 'what if' scenarios. The spreadsheet should not be confused with a database (although it has limited database functionality) and should not be used to store mailing lists or other data records - this is a common mistake (see above the reference to somebody using a spreadsheet to create a resume). The sheet itself is comprised of columns (vertical) and rows (horizontal) which are in turn, made up of cells. It can be used for keeping small business accounting records if the company does not generate enough revenue to warrant the cost of accounting software. In short: the main advantage of a spreadsheet is when complex mathematical calculations need to be carried out on large amounts of numerical data. It's a powerful, complex calculator.

I'm not going to be able to list all the pros and cons of Excel but I'll have a go. Advantages of Excel include automatic calculations of values, graphs, macros, simple tables, and can be used to make simple checking systems if you know the program. The biggest problem with Excel is that there is so many functions and options to get confused about and therefore gets you rather frustrated.

What describes an advantage of using an electronic spreadsheet rather than a manual spreadsheet?

There are two major advantages of using an electronic spreadsheet rather than a manual one: speed and accuracy. Using an electronic spreadsheet takes seconds to minutes to do what takes at least hours manually and the accuracy is not subject to human error provided the program is created accurately. When using an electonical spreed sheet you can type faster then writing.

Why electronic spreadsheet are larger than manual spreadsheet?

Because it gives much more room for people to create much larger spreadsheets that would take too much paper. That is one of the major advantages of an electronic spreadsheet. You can manipulate much larger amounts of data on an electronic spreadsheet. This makes them far more useful. There is so much that can be done on a large electronic spreadsheet that would be very difficult to do on a paper-based one.

What advantages do electronic spreadsheets have over paper spreadsheets?

Data can be added to or removed from an electronic spreadsheet whenever the user wishes to do so. A press on a keyboard button will update the spreadsheet. On a paper spreadsheet, this would not be possible. Any data that needed to be added or erased would usually mean gluing a blank label over the cell, and writing in the new data, or using a liquid paper correction fluid to mask the cell and writing over the top with a pen (messy). Using an electronic spreadsheet means you could sort, rearrange, produce reports, produce graphs, and so on - which would be very time consuming using a paper, database card system.
