-Compact fluorescent bulbs use 66% less energy than a standard incandescent bulb, and last up to 10 times longer.

-A 32-watt CFL can save a homeowner $30 in energy costs over the life of a bulb.

-Lower weight and size, has a more attractive shape.

-Easier and less frequent replacement.

-Less maintenance cost.

They burn the skin if you touch them directly. They have to be changed, as they burn out. Changing them is a pain, with the degree of pain varying on where exactly it is located. Also, bulbs break and the glass shards could easily cut someone if they're not careful. Bulbs tend to be too bright, as looking at one directly (without any covering/shade) could be like looking into a synthetic sun. Should the covering be lost or broken, replacing it could be a pain, as would choosing to put up with the unbridled light of the bare bulb.

what is the disadvantages of thelightbulb? The biggest disadvantage of the light bulb is the heat that is given off by the bulb. On most bulbs this heat is wasted energy that is paid for and it is not being used. Another disadvantage is the fragility of the bulb in a vibration environment. When the light bulb is on, the filament can break very easily with the slightest vibration.

The types of bulbs in use in the home are incandescent (regular), halogen (improved incandescent), compact fluorescent (CFL) and light-emitting diode (LED).

The amount of light produced is measured in lumens, while the amount of electric power used is measured in watts.

Some manufacturers confuse the issue (perhaps deliberately) by measuring the light in 'equivalent watts'.

The efficiency of bulbs is measured by the amount of light produced for each watt consumed, in other words, lumens per watt.

The efficiencies for the four types are:

Incandescent: 12 lumens per watt - typical life 1000 hours

Halogen: 16 lumens per watt - typical life 2000 hours

CFL: 50-60 lumens per watt - typical life 8000-12,000 hours

LED: 70-90 lumens per watt - typical life 25,000 hours.

Thus regular light bulbs should be replaced by CFLs or LEDs by anyone wishing to pay less for their lighting.
