Advantages
  • Mobility - user device can be moved easily within the wireless range
  • Neat and easy Installation - since no cable running here and there, just start up the wireless device and you're ready to rumble
  • Less cost for cabling infrastructure and device
  • More user supported - cable device have limited slots whereas wireless does not.
Disadvantages
  • Relatively lower bandwidth speed - example: although currently 802.11/n could reach 128 Mbps, UTP cable can reach 1 Gbps. And more user mean each bandwidth get smaller. That is why currently wired backbone network is still preferred.
  • Ease of access means more security also necessary to protect data and/or bandwidth, since people can connect anywhere within range without seeking network plug.

Adhoch network is simple to configure and install . the main disadvantage is security Adhoc network are also called unsecured network....Ad-hoc networks are easy to set up. By definition ad-hoc WLANs do not require access point, so they are cheaper. With infrastructured WLANs one can connect to wired LAN, enable wireless roaming for office workers, centralize WLAN management, boost the range....Ad-hoc

✘ One of the biggest disadvantages of large scale wireless sensor networks lies on the complexity of logistics involving selective replacement of sensors that have ran out of energy.

✘ Lower speed compared to wired network. (of course!)

✘ Less secure because hacker's laptop can act as Access Point. If you connected to their laptop, they'll read all your information (username, password.. bla..bla..bla..).

✘ More complex to configure than wired network.

✘ Affected by surrounding. E.g: walls (blocking), microwave oven (interference), far distance (attenuation)

✘ Gets distracted by various elements like Blue-tooth

✘ Still Costly at large

✘ It does not make sensing quantities in buildings easier.

✘ It does not reduce costs for installation of sensors.

✘ It does not allow us to do more than can be done with a wired system
