Members of ones "extended family" include: grandparents, great grandparents, unlcles, aunts, cousins, nephews, neices as well as in some cases brothers and sisters in law. Basically just about anyone that doesnt live with your immdeiate family (if your still at home that is) which would be your mother and father and any siblings. The advantages are a larger family network, social relationships and so on. There really are little disadvantages other than possible less attention by parents due to a larger number of dependants.

ADVANTAGES- you are loved by many, if something happens you have many people to contact, and you can have a great cultural background.

DISADVANTAGES- way too many Christmas cards to send out, you may have many family members you don't even know, which sucks BTW.

Extended families exist and everyone has one. That is not a matter of advantages and disadvantages.

There are advantages and disadvantages to living in a single household as part of an extended family, as compared to living in a nuclear family with the members of your extended family at a greater distance.

The advantages relate to mutual support and assistance. The disadvantages relate to reduced independence and control of your living conditions.
