ROTC allows many students to receive education for free in exchange for service to their country. There are many active duty officers that were trained through the programs.
ROTC allows a reserve force of officers in case of a war.
ROTC makes a bond between rich students at prestigious universities, and allows them to serve in the military without losing on their education.

Military universities have advantages because it is all paide for by the u.s government but you must serve in the military for 5 years. a regular college is nice so you don;t have to deal with drill instructors. You can also join a rotc unit at most colleges to get free tuition but you still have to serve in the military.

Depends. If you attend one of the US Military Academies (West Point, Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, or Coast Guard Academy) or you go to school on an ROTC scholarship, you have an obligation to actively serve for five years. If you took ROTC but ROTC had nothing to do with funding your school, there is no obligation to go into the military.
