Bridge's also provide a passageway for transportations including automobiles, ferries, ships, and trains.

Efficient means of transportation vs taking a ship to the desired location.

Transportation time is much faster, and price of a toll is much less then a boat ticket.

traffic gets held up longer Lifting bridges are slow and limited in size. They typically work for short spans of one or two lanes. Larger sizes require too much superstructure and much larger counterweights. Today's vehicles are larger and heavier, requiring a stronger bridge to begin with.
