Media plays a very significant role in our society. Media starts from the show we watch on TV to the books , magazines and news papers. Without media people in the society would be isolated.

Media often twist stories and opinions to make it more interesting. They even mess up the truth. The media helps poor people by making their story sound sadder so to get sympathy for them and also ask people to help them. However media is also having some drawbacks. Wrong advertisements may cheat people. They show violence and crime which corrupt the young minds. watching television causes eye problems. Media waste our time of studying.

Everything has its good and bad effect. once we understand it, we can utilize it in better ways.

The biggest advantage is that modern media, especially the internet, cable TV, and even radio, can receive and disseminate information very quickly. This makes the world a more connected place, and helps the public to be better informed. It also gives people more access to ideas, opinions, and news from many different sources; whether people want celebrity gossip, the latest sports, or journalistic analysis, there are many ways to find what exactly what you are seeking. Modern media also are very user-friendly: people can be entertained or informed in the comfort of their home, without going anywhere, and without the need for any advanced technical knowledge (in the old days, you had to understand Morse code to send and receive telegraph messages; even the early internet was far more complicated to use than it is today). And for researchers, modern media (especially the internet) are a blessing because they make all sorts of rare and hard to find documents and texts more available: research databases offer full-text copies of old newspapers and magazines, old censuses and other genealogy items, etc.

The bad news is that the speed of modern media is a mixed blessing, since it can lead to the spread of rumors, lies, and incorrect information. A fake news story or a piece of political Propaganda can easily "go viral" and millions of people will believe it because they see it in so many places. People who do not know how to evaluate or fact-check media messages can not only be misinformed-- they can be scammed (on the internet, fraud is a genuine problem, and because of phishing or hacking, some people have their identity stolen). Modern media have also changed what privacy means: people today often put personal information about themselves on their Facebook page, and talk about their life to strangers they have never met. It has also been pointed out by media critics that where years ago, parents could keep their children away from age-inappropriate material, today that is much harder to do, as kids go online and surf the web, play Video Games, or watch any of the hundreds of cable channels. One other disadvantage is the "digital divide"-- those who are wealthy or live in urban centers of population often have better access to internet service and can afford the very high cable rates that are prevalent in many parts of the country. And although many wonderful research databases are now online, large numbers of people are excluded from using them, since the best databases are very expensive and mainly available to students and faculty at elite universities. People who do not attend such colleges or who live in poorer communities must rely on their public library, and in an era of budget cuts, libraries often lack the money to pay for research databases.

Here's some banter to think about :) Television spreads information in an accessible format to viewers quite quickly. When an important event occurs, the audio and visual proceedings of that event can be broadcast in order to inform viewers of the event. This of course requires the proper technicians, reporters/journalists/broadcasters/etc., equipment, timing, and infrastructure that work behind (and in front of) the scenes to bring a programme to the viewers. When information is presented, such as a political party's platform, television can be quite useful to a viewer. Of course, a fundamental problem arises when a company needs to hire and maintain the infrastructure needed to perform the television service: they need money! Unfortunately for television, there are numerous other sources where one may obtain information (the internet, newspapers, radio, word-of-mouth) and therefore television must find methods of attaining and maintaining viewership. [Of course, viewership allows the company to provide an advertisement space that is very lucrative for other companies.] These methods may include: * Quick reporting - the fastest person wins, sort of thing. This tends to be inaccurate and speculative in nature, but does provide instant viewership. * Sensationalism - attention-grabbing, controversial programming. Tends to focus on wild or shocking stories rather than "boring" (although possibly more important) issues. I could go on, but that's a good place to start. When I say TV, I immediately think entertainment. Therefore it may have started purely as an entertainment method. We will never know :) However, with the current events these days, network/TV bias is playing a large role in politics among other things. Something else you could look into. M. provides information to general public efficiently.Mass media can reach large numbers of the population in a short amount of time. in my opinion mass media have advantage as well as disadvantage first it is wasting of time watching nonsense article iit give bad effect on child . Mass media play a very important role in our everyday life. They serve to inform people of different events that take place or may happen. Also they entertain people or even help to make their life better. But the most important thing that newspapers, radio or TV bring to people is information. The process of sharing information in the modern world is extremely intense. In all countries is becoming more complex social cultural phenomenon that applies to various activities and is inseparable from the study of languages, political and social, economic, scientific, educational and technological development. That is why a significant and constant amount of informationstudents receive through the media.

This question has been a matter of social debate for decades.

MASS MEDIA: Media that reaches a majority of the population (Be it local, national or world-wide)

Assuming - FOR THIS QUESTION - that this MASS MEDIA reaches a majority of the people and In addition has an effect on determining the personal opinions of the masses.

THE MERITS: The dissemination of events, actions and situations are spread to many as possible in shortest time. Also what the social, political & community responses are is given as well.

THE DEMERITS: Are basicically the same as the MERITS. It is not always good that individuals hear that there is a majority opinion or Majority response before they can determine their own response or opinion.

Humans being human - they tend to follow others. They think that others - who are closer to the situation, since they are first - THAT THEY HAVE A GOOD REASON TO FEEL AS THEY DO - and so Go Along.

This is generally "A BAD THING". and is relied on by many in the Mass Media Market" to increase sales at the expense of accuracy.

I'm not going to touch on the importance of media itself as I believe that is a whole different topic. Reason I say that there is more then one way to get the media. What I think making electronic delivery of media important is the Availability of it. Both on the producing and receiving ends.

As an example, I'll use ebooks. these have several advantages over regular books to both the author and to the reader. To the small time author that's trying to get a start into book writing the much lower cost of producing and selling a eBook means that places that produce them will be more willing to give people a try as they have to put less at stake to get things started so their chance of getting published go up also since there is less overhead with selling an eBook the author can see a larger share of the profits from it.

On the Consumer Side not only does this lead to a larger selection of books, but also often the books are sold for slightly less (due to the much lower overhead), and you have the added benefit of carrying a reader around instead of books. for people who read a lot, or for those who need to have a lot of reference books the reader is several times smaller, lighter, more portable. another advantage is eBooks are searchable lets say you need to get a specific quote, passage, formula or other info that's in the book somewhere and your not sure where. with a print book you'd have to page though most if not the whole thing to find it, if your not lucky it can take a lot of work. where an eBook you can use a search function built into the reader that will scan the document and find the information for you, saving you a lot of time an hassle.

it's also great if your out of town and you want to keep up with what's goosing on back where you live. Say your on vacation in Florida and you live back in Minnesota, well the chances of you finding some store down here that sells the local paper for your home town is practically nill, yet if your local newspaper has an electronic version you can go to their website and read up on what's going on up there. And that's especially handy when you hear about some big tragedy or problem, or something especially good happening in an area, you can get a report that is close to the source because you can electronically access the news from the news company's that are in that area.
